Essay #4: A bosom friend

Prompt:

This week we’ve discovered a whole new kind of friendship in the bromance between Ishmael and Queequeg. (If you want, review how their friendship began, pp. 57-58.)

Describe how they became such quick friends. explain why you think they experienced such immediate closeness. Then, recall and DESCRIBE an experience you’ve had discovering a “bosom friend”: How and why did you become close, and what kinds of experiences did you have together? Compare AND cONTRAST your friendship with Ishmael and Queequeg’s.

Hints:

  • There will still be a category on this rubric for a brainstorm of some sort and an outline. Hand those in with your essay.
  • 15 points of your final grade will depend on your one “ideal” paragraph. Write at least one paragraph in the style we described yesterday, and circle it to show me which one to grade. Here are the three parts it must have to receive full credit:
    • Transition sentence (connecting the ideas from the previous paragraph to the ideas coming up in the new one)
    • Some general statements (facts, summaries, general observations)
    • A specific and detailed example, and analysis (What does the example show?)
