11th Grade Syllabus

Reading

  • In-class reading and discussion: Moby Dick.
  • Outside of class: 2 books required (novels, book-length non-fiction, book-length collections of poetry or plays)
    • Books must come from the list of American literature provided in class

Assignments & Tests

  • Two 3-5 page essays, 3 drafts each. Deadlines as follows:
    • Essay 1
      • Discovery draft: 12/11
      • Second draft: 1/8
      • Final draft: 1/21
    • Essay 2
      • Discovery draft: 2/5
      • Second draft: 2/19
      • Final draft: 3/4
  • 10-15 minute in-class presentation on one book and author read outside of class. Info sheet to be provided soon. Presentations to be scheduled on a class calendar.
  • One book review of approx. 500 words, written according to the official book review format and posted on the book review blog (link) by the deadline.
    • Book review deadline: 2/26
  • Vocabulary quizzes: Two lists of literary terms, 20 words on each list. Quiz dates: 12/18 , 2/11

Attendance

  • 4 tardies allowed. Students will be given one day of lunchtime accountability every time they're late after that.
  • Students have two days to make up work for any excused absence.
  • No work missed for an unexcused absence can be made up.

  • Be polite. (Okay, that's more of a life goal than a rule. Whatever)
